Of Irish descent. Son of David and Phoebe (Sands) McCamly, jr. Sands moved to Michigan about 1830 and settled in the area that became Battle Creek. He brought his family to Michigan in 1832.
Notable Facts:
He was the first postmaster of Battle Creek, appointed in 1835.
married Eliza Colemen, 11/8/1823; children: 6, Mary, George, Harriet, Mark, Ann and Jane
he died in May, 1864.
