Biographical Sketch:
Son of Job and Ada (Smith) Lapham; the family moved to Saratoga, NY in 1806. He came to Michigan in 1825 and purchased land in Washtenaw County south of Ann Arbor. In 1844, he built the first saw-mill in Algoma Township, Kent County, MI, on the Rogue river. He was the first Supervisor for Algoma township, and was Justice of the Peace for over 35 years. He was living in Rockford, MI in 1870.
