Biographical Sketch:
He was born in Saginaw and raised in Merrill. The Johnsons enjoyed hunting, motorcycling, gardening, waterskiing, exercising, and taking part in many family activities. He and his family were active in the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Harrison. Johnson was a member of the Clare County MSU Alumni, Clare Rotary Club, local and national Right To Life, and National Rifle Association. Johnson was a long-time supporter of 4-H and a former volunteer for Boy Scouts of America.
He was manager of a Clare business, Johnston Elevator. He was the owner/operator of a small, local farm and worked for large corporations, small corporations and local cooperatives. He is a former president of the Clare Area Chamber of Commerce and served as a board member for Michigan Agri-Business Association and the Clare County Farm Bureau where he worked with state and federal lawmakers on behalf of agriculture issues. He was a former FFA chapter president. Appointed Michigan director of the Farm Service Agency within the USDA, November 2017.
