Biographical Sketch:
Of English ancestry. Son of Nelson C. and Eliza A. (Sawyer) Earle. He went to drafting school, learned the iron moulder's trade in Bradford and Chicopee Falls, MA. He worked his way up to foreman, inventor, patentee and traveling representative. He served as assistant chief of the fire department at Chicopee Falls, MA, in 1883; organized the H. S. Earle Manufacturing Company, a patent holding company. He is president of the North Wayne Tool Co., farm edge tool manufacturers of Hallowell, Maine. He established and was president of the Genesee Gravel Co., and was chief executive of the Good Roads Supply Co.; treasurer of the Roseland Park Cemetery Association. In 1895, he was chairman of the bicycling organization, Michigan League of American Wheelmen's good roads committee. He was also president of the Detroit newsboys Association for many years.Michigan state highway commissioner, 1903-09. He has served as president of the National Convict Labor Good Roads Association and was the founder of the American Roadmakers Association. member of the Masons, Elks and Odd Fellows.

Notable Facts:
Monuments were erected in his honor in Mackinaw City and Cass City for his work related to highways. Known as "Good Roads Earle." First highway commissioner of Michigan
