Biographical Sketch:
Son of Marqu'es De Lafayette and Ellen [or Helen] C. (Gunn) Bemis. Came to Ionia Co. MI at age 5 and lived there 15 years working on a farm by the month. He taught school for 9 years, at one time professor of chemistry, general history and penmanship in the Ionia schools. He was Superintendent of Nashville and Carson City schools and 3 years a member of Montcalm Co. Board of School Examiners. For several years, he owned and edited the Carson City Gazette.
