Biographical Sketch:
Moved to Licking Co., OH with his family in 1833, then to Adrian, MI, 1834 [to a small peice of lands in Dover]. His father died in 1835 and he work for his board in the neighborhood. The family moved to Qunicy in 1839. Received little formal schooling until 1845 when he began to work for Dr. Wm. Hanchett in Coldwater. Studied medicine with him & others. On graduation from Berkshire Medical College in 1854, he practiced in Boston, MA and served as engineer and inspector during the construction of the Binghamton & Syracuse Railroad. He returned to Branch County, MI and practiced medicine in Algansee (10 years). In 1862, he served as examining surgeon for his county. He moved to Coldwater, MI in 1864. Member of local, state and national medical associations. member of the Michigan Medical Supreme Court. Elected coroner in 1858, serving for 12, non-consecutive, years. He was also county surveyor for 12, non-consecutive, years and drain commissioner for 4 years. He served as alderman in Coldwater for 4 years. Held several local offices. Married Miss Hannah M. Thompson in 1856, great granddaughter of Major General Joseph Reed, of Revolutionary fame.
