Biographical Sketch:
Of Welsh & Scottish descent. Son of James R. & Martha (Niles) Stanton. Worked in a mercantile then opened his own in Greenville, NY, 1837. 1838, commissioned quartermaster of the 37th Infantry Brigade of NY. Later bought a farm near Beloit, WI & Rockton, IL; 1861, commissioned temp. military aide in IL monitoring supplies to the troops; 1867, moved to Ionia, MI. Held local offices in each of the communites he lived in. Active in rail development.
