Biographical Sketch:
son of Daniel & Elizabeth (Townsend) North. Of German & Scottish descent. Came to Washtenaw Co., MI, 1835. Moved to Flint, 1845, & opened a lumber yard & kept a hotel for 3 yrs. Built the 1st bridge over the Cass River at Bridgeport; dammed the river & built a sawmill. Started the Vassar Woolen Mills, 1867; started the 1st bank in Tuscola Co., 1875. Held many local offices & state & federal appointments. A strict temperance supporter & prohibitionist.

Notable Facts:
Built the 1st dormitory building at U. of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Founded Vassar, MI.
