Biographical Sketch:
Born in the Bavarian Palatinate at Bliescastle. His father was a merchant/shoemaker. He learned to make shoes from his father. Acted as king's forester until emigrating with his family arriving in New York 6/7/1833. He briefly worked on a farm east of Brooklyn. He settled in Newburg, NY, in 1834 or 1835 and operated a brickmaking business. Moved to Springwells, MI, 1848; established a brick-yard on the Reeder farm in Springwells. he was elected township clerk in 1850 and 1851. he was elected to the board of estimates for the city of Detroit 3 times. Was a delegate to the National Convention in Philadelphia in 1872, an alternate in 1884.

Notable Facts:
Very influential in the 19th century development of Detroit. Served in both chambeers. Father of Joseph Greusel. 1881 & 1883 Manuals say he was born in Bavaria.
