Biographical Sketch:
Son of Philip and Ellen? (German?). His father was a mechanic and died leaving a widow and 4 children, of which Patrick was next to the youngest . In a few years their means were exhausted, and when Patrick was 7 years old he was compelled to help make his own living. Afterward he traveled through Ireland, Scotland and England, and finally in 1843 sailed for America, landing in Quebec. He learned the brass molder's trade. He settled in Detroit around 1850. He worked as a sewer inspector after years as a brass molder. He identified with the United Ironworkers and was a member of the Trades Assembly., serving as president, secretary and treasurer at times.
