Biographical Sketch:
His father, Peter, died when he was 3. He came to Michigan in the spring of 1852. He worked by the month one year in Lenawee County, when he moved to Branch County and purchased wild land in Coldwater Township. He tried clearing land for about a year, when he again resorted to work by the month for 7 months. He then spent 6 months in Seneca County, OH, attending school there. He then returned to Michigan and engaged in clearing his land. In 1864 he sold his farm in Coldwater and purchased one in the township of Butler. He served as constable highway commissioner, township superintendent of schools, coroner and supervisor 10 terms
