Proos spent nearly 10 years as staff member to Congressman Fred Upton, with 6 years as deputy chief of staff and district director. He was the former vice president of Heritage Homes, INC of Michigan in Berrien County. He was a member of St. Joseph/Benton Harbor Rotary Club, Lakeland Regional Health System Community Benefits Committee. He was a former coach of age-group swimming and girls high school tennis, and a board member of Berrien Community Foundation. He was a member of St. Joseph the Provider Knights of Columbus Chapter of St. Joseph Catholic Parish.
