She was a partner in the law firm of Schuitmaker, Cooper, Schuitmaker, Cypher and Knotek, P.C. She served on Michigan Board of Medicine, Board of Michigan Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons, Intercare Community Health Network, Van Buren Community Mental Health Board, Van Buren County Board of Canvassers, and Van Buren County Community Corrections Advisory Board. She was the past president of Van Buren County Republican Women, past vice chair for the 6th Congressional Republican District and the Van Buren County Republicans. She was a member of Paw Paw Rotary, Paw Paw Optimist Club, South Haven AAUW, Kalamazoo League of Women Voters, Daughters of the American Revolution, Southwest Area Boy Scouts, Farm Bureau. She was the commissioner for Midwestern Higher Education Compact. Member, Uniform Law Commission and Federalist Society; Aspen Institute-Rodel Fellow.
