His father settled in Washtenaw Co. in 1825. Lived on the farm until age 16 then attended school in Ann Arbor for several years. Spent 3 years as a commercial traveler and 2 years "roughing it" on the Western frontier. He settled on a farm near Eaton Rapids in 1878.
Notable Facts:
His older brother also served in the House in 1869.

His father was in the House of Representatives in 1845.
Both he and his wife were listed as physicians on the 1910 Census. 1900 lists him as a physician.
