Biographical Sketch:
Of English descent. Son of Charles and Satira Stocking (Kies) Fowle. Taught school for 2 winters. Read law and admitted to the bar in September 1877. elected circuit court commissioner in 1878. He opened the first bank in Chippewa county at the Soo in July, 1883, with E. H. Mead as partner. In August, 1886, he formed the First National Bank into which the private bank was merged, and has been its president since organization. He has also held several public offices, being appointed on board of water commissioners and sewer commissioner in village of Soo, chairman board of supervisors, chamber of commerce, commercial club, treasurer of public library board, etc. He organized St. Mary's Falls Water Power Company, original of Lake Superior Power Company; was appointed by Governor Bliss on board of trustees U.P. hospital for insane and was chairman of board for about 4 years. One of the organizers of the chamber of commerce in the Soo.

Notable Facts:
Elected first Republican mayor of the Soo in 1889. Death cert. says to be buried at Riverside Cemetery; Find-a-Grave says he is in Oak Grove Cemetery. 1909 Manual says he graduated from Hillsdale College in 1875; other sourse says University of Michigan
