Biographical Sketch:
Ancestors emigrated from Kent Co., England to Massachusetts in 1634 and were pioneer settlers of Concord. Moved with his parents, Allen & Eliza (Barron) Willard, to Battle Creek, MI, 1836. Ordained a minister of the Episcopal Church, 1848; Member of the Michigan State Bd of Ed. 1857-1863; regent of the U. of Michigan, 1863-1872; rector of churches in Coldwater, Battle Creek, & Kalamazoo, MI, until 1863. Prof. of Latin, Kalamazoo College, 1863-1864. Editor & owner of the Battle Creek Journal until his death in 1901.

Notable Facts:
Opposed the Kansas-Nebraska Bill to extend slave terr., 1855. Member of the State constitutional convention, 1867. Elected to the 43rd-44th Congresses (3/4/1873-3/3/1877).
