Biographical Sketch:
Born in Dresden, Yates County New York on September 9, 1822 as one of five children to Joseph White and mother Lucy (Rowley) White. At age 13 Mr. White moved with his grandfather (Ezra Rowley) to Fountain County, Indiana to work on the farm. He entered as a junior clerk in a store at Portland in 1836. This was the start of many successful business opportunities for Mr. White. He arrived in Grand Rapids, MI of May 2, 1844. Mayor of Grand Rapids, Mich., 1861-63
