Biographical Sketch:
Moved to Detroit in 1831/32 where he studied law and was admitted to the bar. In 1834 he was made master in chancery and again in 1839 or 1889. Appointed probate judge for Wayne county, 1835-37; served as US District Attorney under President Pierce. In later life he ceased to practice law and dealt in real estate. Member of Detroit's Young Men's Society in 1833 and on the executive committee of the Young Men's State Temperance Society. He was a founder and first president of the Detroit Bar Library until October 1868. He was treasurer of the Presbyterian Alliance. Helped found the Brady Guard in 1836. Ill health took him to his brother's home in Connecticut for the last 3 years of his life.
