Biographical Sketch:
Son of John Adams Burleigh. He entered a mercantile house at a young age and stayed until the Civil War broke out. He joined the 17th New York Regiment and soon rose to the rank of Captain. In 1863 he was made Lieutenant-Colonel of the Seymour Light Infantry but soon left due to injuries. He went into business in the West Indies. He returned to New York due to ill health and moved to Ann Arbor, MI where he practiced law and entered politics. He moved to Brooklyn, NY about 1889. There he was elected alderman. He traveled extensively. Member of the Loyal Legion, the Crescent Club, the Brooklyn Lodge of Elks and the American Museum of Natural History.

He was nominated for Mayor of Ann Arbor but declined to run.
