Biographical Sketch:
Of German descent. 1 of 9 children of Jesse & Polly (Canfield) Edsell. By age 21 he was a master carpenter & joiner. Worked in Ohio for a time. After marrying, he & his wife attended Oberlin College; on graduating they set about establishing a similar school in Olivet, MI with other members of the colony. In 1849, they moved to Otsego & he became a lawyer. Justice of the Peace for 16 yrs in Otsego, MI. He was & a trustee of the State Insane Asylum. Established the 1st bank in Otsego, 1869. A temperance supporter & anti-slavery.
