Biographical Sketch:
Son of Henry & Harriet (Northrup??) Foote. In 1838 his family moved to Freedom, NY. Led an adventurous youth, enlisting in the US Army for the War with Mexico [1838] (which ended before he was deployed), sailing on a whaler, living in Peru for a year and returning to the US in 1850 to join the Navy. Came to East Saginaw, MI in 1854 settling in Tittabawassee as a teacher. He taught, cleared land and studied law for a few years. Admitted to the bar, 1863 & moved to Saginaw. Held many local offices, including justice of the peace and as a member of the board of supervisors.
