Biographical Sketch:
Son of Joseph Rankin. He emigrated to America in 1848 and studied the printing trade in Pontiac. He settled in Flint in 1850. He was editor and publisher of the Genesee Whig, founded in 1850 [later known as the Wolverine Citizen]. He served as mayor of Flint, city clerk, member of the city school board and postmaster [1879-87]. He was appointed prison inspector by Gov. Crapo. Member of the Odd Fellows, Knights Templar and Masons
