Biographical Sketch:
Son of Robert & Katherine (Myers) Shoemaker. Moved to Joliet, IL, 1835. Moved to Michigan Center, MI, 1842 & purchased the fouring mills. Served as State Prison Inspector, 1845-48, collector of customs in Detroit, member of the board of public works in Jackson. Commissioned a Colonel for the 13th Michigan Volunteer Infantry, 1862. Held several public offices. Active in agricultural & pioneer societies. President of the State Agricultural Society. Member of the Masons and Oddfellows. President of the Eaton Society of the 13th Regiment, President of the Michigan State Pioneer Society.

Notable Facts:
POW in Libby Prison for 2 weeks in 1862 during the Civil War. Member of the Masons. Chapman (Le) gives birth date as 4/8/1818.
