He was owner of Jim Tedder Productions from 1987-2016, and the legislative program manager for national Association of Home Builders for 2 years. He was manager of state and local government affairs for Associated Builders and Contractors for 1 year. He was a behavior interventionist at Sashabaw Middle School from 2011-16. He was a social studies teacher at Clarkston Junior and High Schools for 6 years, and a lecturer for the Oakland University Department of Marketing and Management for 3 years. He was a member of the Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce, Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce, Clarkston Rotary Club, Clarkston Foundation and Clarkston Area youth Assistance. He was a cub master for Cub Scouts Pack 499 and a wrestling coach at Sashabaw Middle School and Clarkston Wrestling Club.
