He was the president of the American Family Association of Michigan and the state-semi finalist for the Harry S Truman Scholarship. He was a member of the Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors, American Legion, National Rifle Association, Midland Optimist Club, We the People of Mid-Michigan, and the Eagle Scouts. He was the father of four Eagles. He was a founding board member of the Michigan Freedom to Work Coalition.
