Biographical Sketch:
Son of Thomas and Sally (Parker) Brown. He moved to Ann Arbor at 21, then to Kalamazoo County around 1831. In Prairie Ronde he worked in a store where he then became a partner. He was in business until 1848, when he began to farm near Schoolcraft, MI. He was a member of the University of Michigan Board of Regents, 1855-64. He helped secure a prohibition law and was a strong anti-slavery advocate. He was president of the Schoolcraft and Three Rivers Railroad for 6 years.
