Biographical Sketch:
Son of Henry Augustus and Betsey (Stryker) Babcock. His family moved to Romeo, MI when he was 3; at 14 they moved to Elk Township in Sanilac Co. He had very little schooling & was self educated; went into business as a young man making hoops & staves. Served as town clerk , supervisor, school inspector, and many minor offices, and in 1872 was elected sheriff of Sanilac County. After being sheriff, he decided to become a lawyer, studying until 1877, when he was admitted to the bar. Elected prosecuting attorney in 1880, 1882 & 1884.
