Of English descent. Son of Uriah and Roxanna (Joyner) Thompson; grandson of Beoni Thompson. Moved to Michigan in 1860; enlisted in the 3d Michigan cavalry in 1861; became a hospital steward; promoted to lieutenant as assistant surgeon and then surgeon; mustered out 1866. Served as supervisor of South Haven for 2 terms. Later moved to Colton, CA.
