Biographical Sketch:
His family moved to Volinia, Cass Co., MI in 1838. He worked his way through normal school and 2 years of classical, medical and pharmacological studies. He became the principal of the graded schools at Uion City, in September, 1862. He taught for 12 years and was head of schools in Eaton Rapids, Paw Paw, Sturgis and Manchester. He changed professions in 1874 and was briefly connected with the Jackson 'Patriot' buying controlling interest in the Coldwater 'Reporter' in 1875-76. He was also involved with the 'Truth for the People' temperance publication in Detroit. In 1877, he moved on, purchasing a stock of drugs in Sherwood, Branch Co.
