Biographical Sketch:
Eldest child of John and Isabella (Campbell) Strong. Of English & Scottish descent. He moved from Wayne to Monroe County in 1863. He farmed until 1863 when he began milling, making staves & lumber; also had a mercantile (1865); flouring mill (1878); he also raised cattle. He helped establish a bank. He was living in Berlin, Monroe Co., MI in 1880. He held every township office and was director in his school district for over 50 years. Member of the Masons & Knights Templar.

Notable Facts:
Death certificate, PolGryd and Chapman (Le) and Det.Free Press give birth yr as 1830; Manuals, 1879, 1881 & 1883 say 1831. Lt. Governor 1891-3. Served in both the House & the Senate. Committees: Senate- Counties & Townships (chair both terms); Liquor Traffic (chair in 2nd term) ; State Affairs; & Fisheries. Obit in 04/03/1913 Record Commercial [Monroe] Known as "Honest John". Lost two fingers on his right hand in a sawmill accident.
