Biographical Sketch:
Of Irish descent. Son of James and Cynthia (Larned) Grant. His family moved to Livonia, NY in 1849 but he returned to Michigan in 1855. He worked in a store and taught school in Birmingham. He moved to Utica, MI in 1858. He served in the Co. H, 2nd Michigan Cavalry and held the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. After living in Utuca for several years he returned to Detroit around 1895.Held several local offices including postmaster of Utica (7 years) and justice of the peace (8 years), Utica village trustee and member of the school board.
