Son of John C and Harriet W. Hopkins. He lived in Oakland County, MI, in 1835; in 1871 he was living in Saginaw County. He taught school from 1853-61 and was a soldier from 1861-65. Although a farmer most of his life, he was in the hardware trade for several years.
