Biographical Sketch:
Son of Stephen & Sarah (Hobby) Palmer. He taught school while attending college. He became a member of the Massachusetts Home Guards. Moved west, settling in Torch Lake, MI, May 1869. Managed a lumber mill for 6 yrs. Moved to Elk Rapids and, in 1876, to Kalkaska. As county supervisor, 1st in Antrim Co., then in Kalkaska Co., he devised an efficient means of keeping records. He also operated a dry goods store until 1886. Bought land & harvested the lumber as he developed farm land, 1886. His farm included fruit orchards & a dairy. Held several local offices. President of Kalkaska County Bank. He served as supervisor for several terms, on the school board for 6 years and was chairman of the county road commission. Member of the State Dairymen's Association, Grange, the Masons and Knights Templar.
