Biographical Sketch:
He came to America with his parents, Richard and Agnes [or Margaret] (Crawford) Fyfe, at age 3, settling in Ontario, Canada. The family moved to Grand Rapids, MI in 1879. He worked in Grand Rapids, MI; surveyor of the port in Cleveland in 1903; and a clerk in superior court in Chicago[?]. He changed parties a few times.. He began life in the U.S. as a furniture worker and, in 1884, was engaged as reporter on Grand Rapids newspapers . He was appointed clerk of the Superior Court of Grand Rapids in 1887, and while holding that office, studied law, passed an excellent examination and was admitted to the bar. He resigned that office to accept the appointment as surveyor of customs for the port of Grand Rapids, tendered him by President Cleveland in 1893. After 1897, he gave his attention to law and insurance business.
