Son of Francis T. and Mary Huntley (Sigourney) Russell. He was a civil engineer on the N. Y. & N. E. Railroad before taking up farming in Michigan. He came to Michigan about 1884. He was State Land Commissioner (Commissioner of the State Land Office, 1909-12) and real estate developer.
