Biographical Sketch:
He came to Michigan in 1842. From 1847 to 1867 was in active mercantile life, then was at the head of a banking house, of which he was president. He was for five years an Inspector of the Detroit House of Correction, four years a mem ber of the Poor Commission, and was a member and treasurer of the State Commission to the New Orleans exposition in 1885. In politics a Democrat, four years a member of the State Committee and eight years of the National, twice on the electoral ticket, twice a candidate for State Treasurer, and delegate to the National Convention in 1876. He was president of a number of German societies.
