Biographical Sketch:
In 1815, he went to Buffalo, NY. and remained in that vicinity until 1834, then came to Detroit where he followed the occupation of mason and contractor. In 1838, he was an Alderman. In 1849, he became a government agent, and traveled extensively through the states and Canada. Had a farm in Jackson Co. in 1850. In 1852, he went to California with a drove of horses, cattle and sheep, and engaged in mining. He was Superintendent of the Cherokee mine in Butte County, CA, for many years. He then returned to Ionia where he died.
Notable Facts:
In 1838, he removed to Jackson, MI, where the State Prison had been located on twenty acres of his farm. He donated the stone for the west half of the prison buildings.
