Son of William E. and Elizabeth (Colemen) White.Went to California in Spring, 1860; enlisted in the 13th Reg. Michigan Volunteers, 1861; commissioned as 1st Lt. then Adjutant 12/25/1862 under Gen. Harker; made Capt. 1863. Contracted asthma & resigned his commission 9/3/1863. Settled in Wayland, Allegan Co., MI after the war then moved to Pentwater, MI, 1875. Owned a mercantile store then a hardware store; also manufactured shingles. He served 4 years as village trustee. In 1900, he was probate judge in Kalamazoo; in 1910, he was practicing law in Manhattan, NY
