    Biographical Sketch: 
    Son of Benjamin & Elizabeth (Hennings) Bonnell. His father died when Benjamin was 7 and he helped support the family until his mother remarried. His step-father was Henry L. Brown. Lived in Westchester Co., NY, Pike Co., PA, Jersey City, NJ & Minnestoa before coming to Missaukee Co. MI in Sept. 1870. Enlisted in Co. B, 151st PA Volunteers in 1862; fought at Chancellorsville & Gettysburg. Briefly was a prisoner, 1863; on release served in a construction corps before returning to Pennsylvania.  After the war he lived 2 years in Jersey City, NJ and farmed for 2 years in Minnesota.  He returned to Michigan in 1870. Held several local offices in Missaukee Co..  He was elected supervisor 7 times and county treasurer twice. He was county surveyor from 1872-82.
