Biographical Sketch:
Smiley worked at General Motors Truck and Bus Assembly Plant in Flint for 18 years where he also was a UAW union representative. Smiley also spent 4 years as a lieutenant with the Burton Fire Department. He later served as mayor of Burton for 20 years, first elected in 1991, and as a member of the Burton City Council for 4 years. He was past president of both the Michigan Municipal League and the Michigan Mayors Association.
Smiley is a member of the Burton Ministerial Clergy Association and is Chairman of the Flint Area Narcotics Group. He is also an active member of Shriners International, the Michigan Masons and the Rotary Club of Burton.
