Biographical Sketch:
Son of Charles and Alma (Allen) Seward. The family moved to the Michigan Territory around 1836, settling in Gertrand, Berrien Co. He was in business with his father, then with his brother. He operated a hotel in Bertrand for a time then moved to Chicago for 2 year and operated a distillery. He was part of a detective force before returning to Michigan, living in Niles. Elected county sheriff 1864-68. After his legislative term he worked as a store clerk in Niles and then as a keeper in the peniteniay for 2 years. He was assistant sergeant-at-arms for the state senate, working as a clerk in Niles between sessions. He later operated a hotel in Edwardsburg for 2 years then moved to Jackson to engage in the grocery business. Served on the county board of supervisors
