Biographical Sketch:
English ancestry. Son of Alden S. and Fidelia (Winchell) Corliss. He learned the printing trade in the offices of the Almont Herald. He moved to Mayville in 1885 ad worked for the Monitor. In 1888, he started his own paper, the Saturday Sayings. After 3 years it merged with the Monitor and Corliss continued publishing it until 1914. He held the office of village clerk [16 years]; township clerk; director and treasurer of the school district and was postmaster at Mayville. Also served as proofreader and assistant secretary of the senate. Conducted the Mayville Monitor for over 25 years. He was clerk for the Board of State Auditors between sessions of the senate. In 1921, he was made State Director of Printing and Binding [15 years]. For 10 years he worked for the Franklin DeKleine Co., contract printers for the state. Member of the Odd Fellows; Knights of Pythias; the Maccabees; Modern Woodmen, the Masons; and the Independent Order of Foresters. Member of the Lansing Exchange Club.
