Biographical Sketch:
Of Scottish and Irish descent. Son of Thoams and Margaret (Thornhiil or Hawthorn). He moved to Michigan in 1880. He worked in the lumber woods before purchasing 120 acres of undeveloped land on May 1, 1881. After 7 years he had cleared the land and leased it to others. He had a grain business until 1894 when he was elected sheriff. He returned to business after his term as sheriff. he served several years a supervisor and was chairman of the board.

Notable Facts:
Death certificate gives mother's name as Margaret Hawthorn. Died of apolplexy.
