Son of Berya? and Samantha (Brown) Oakley. He was a Second Seargent in Co. E of the Michigan Voluntary Infantry. For a number of years, he was actively identified with the labor movement in Michigan, holding the highest offices in Bay City central labor organizations. At the time of his election to the legislature he was president of the Bay City Central Labor Union council. Member of the Bay City Typographcal Union (it's president for many years; member of the United Spanish War Veterans.
