Biographical Sketch:
Grandson of Nehemiah Woodward, a Baptist clergyman who served on the attache staff of George Washington during the Revolution. Hiel cam to Micigan with his father in 1836 and lived in Adrian until 1845. He worked as a mechanic for several years eventually buying a farm in Jackson Co., MI. Elected supervisor in 1858 and served for 10 years. Appointed postmaster of Brooklyn, MI in 1872.
