Biographical Sketch:
He came with his parents, Henry Lansing and Alazan (Rhodes) Clute, to Michigan at age 4 and located on a farm 5.5 miles north of the village of Marshall, Calhoun County. His father died in 1855 and he took over management of the farm. In 1857, his mother rented their farm and moved to Corunna in Shiawassee County and he was able to continue his education. In Spring 1860 he returned to farming. In 1862, he enlisted in the 2d Missouri cavalry or "Merrill Horse, " remaining in the service until June 15, 1865. In 1874, 1876 and 1880, he was elected supervisor. At the end of the was he returned to farming, owning land in Michigan and Kansas. In 1882 hew went to Kansas for 3 years, developing his properties there, dealing in stock and lumber. He was a justice of the peace in Kansas. He returned to Michigan, running his farm until his sons could take over, then moved to Marshall, MI. Member of the GAR
