    Biographical Sketch: 
    Emigrated to the U.S., 1854 with his parents, Henry and Mary Milnes, settling in Newton, Jasper Co., IA.  Moved to Coldwater, Branch Co., MI, 1860; enlisted as a private in Co. C, 17th Reg., Michigan Volunteer Infantry in 1862, mustered out in 1865.  He returned to Coldwater after the war and worked with his father in the grocery and produce business until 1871 when he went into business alone. Mayor of Coldwater 1885-1886.
    Notable Facts: 
    Lt. Governor of Michigan in 1894; presided over the State senate until his resignation 6/1/1895; elected to the 54th Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Julius C. Burrows; served from 12/2/1895-3/3/1897. Delegate to the Michigan constitutional convention of 1907 & 1908
