Biographical Sketch:
Son of John Holmes and Adeline (Cummings) Beers. Early life on a farm except when attending school. At age 18 moved to northern part of New Jersey to engage in fruit and tree culture. Came to MI in 1869 to continue in same business until 1874 when he began study of medicine. Practiced medicine and kept a general interest in farming and fruit culture. Elected Supervisor of Royalton, Berrien Co.in 1873, prominent in grange work in Berrien Co. holding position of master several terms and was secretary of the first country grange in the state which he helped organize. Served several times on the Berrien Co. Board of Supervisors.
