Biographical Sketch:
Son of John and Sarah (Talmage) Collins. He obtained a position as traveling salesman, and after an experience of 8 years as a "knight of the grip" he moved to Galion, OH, and entered the wholesale grocery business. After 9 years experience in that line Mr. Collins moved to Jackson, MI, in 1884, and founded the transfer house of Smith Bros. & Collins. In 1887, he founded the Collins manufacturing company, and 3 years later the National Wheel Co. He sold his interest in the last named company in 1894, and became vice president and general manager of the Harmon-Whitmore Co. He is also senior partner in the firm of S. B. & H. C. Collins, wholesale coal dealers in the city of Jackson. Served as alderman.
