Biographical Sketch:
Son of Charles E. and Hannah (Kingon) Gillett. He taught several years with marked success before pivoting to farming. He farmed until 1888 when he turned to real estate, a loan business, and the management and settlement of estates. He was twice elected school inspector; filled the office of superintendent of schools; town clerk; and supervisor of Bertrand township 3 terms. In 1892 and 1894, he was elected register of deeds of Berrien county. In 1880, he served as census enumerator. In 1890, he was president of the Berrien county farmers ' institute association.
